MUTYA HISTORY

Tradition says that the selection of Miss Dipolog dates back in  1952. This activity of showcasing pretty and talented Dipolog lass have become then an annual activity hosted by the City Government of Dipolog. The first recorded from of the selection of candidates came from representations of the different city government agencies; then it widened its scope by representations doming from the different barangays, which up to the present, barangay representations were still accepted. Since then, the city government found it relevant that applications for the beauty pageant shall be extensive, hence, to date, any lass whose roots can be traced as a blue blooded Dipolognon is now open, The pageant committee has then established a set of guidelines which shall be the basis for the selection of the official candidates for the beauty and brains competition.

This prestigious activity, which forms part of the week-long celebration in preparation for the Adlaw sa Dipolog, is aimed at selecting from among the young, presentable, prettiest and talented lady-applicants, to become the Ambassadress of Goodwill, who shall be given the opportunity to assist the city government's tourism programs, and other city government projects, to help boost our fast growing economic activities. Despite however the modest progress the pageant activity has attained and the modernity that has resulted from it, Dipolognons have accepted and embraced this activity as the highlight of the city's annual founding anniversary, which is celebrated every 1st of July each year.
   
Earlier recorded similar undertakings were conducted in such a simple manner, but it has retained the friendly disposition and exhuberant spirit of goodwill, which have become the distinct hallmarks of traditional Dipolognon hospitability and friendliness.

As we mark this year's 12th anniversary of the pageant, well meaning and responsible men and woman took the challenge to create this activity, an affair to remember. In fact, since 1999, a civic-oriented organization, the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Dipolog have taken the cudgels of responsibility as the co-host of the city government, in this prestigious Search for Mutya sa Dipolog. Since then, additional opportunities and benefits were given away to the Mutya sa Dipolog and her court, and as Ambassadress of Goodwill. As of  last year, there has been recorded some fourteen  (14) beauteous Dipolog lass who made it and was crowned Mutya sa Dipolog.
   
Proceeds of said pageant is intended for the purchase of lot in Brgy. Cogon intended for the development of an eco-tourism park.
