On the evening of July 1, 2005, Friday, the   quest for the fairest and brightest lady among the eleven candidates of Mutya sa Dipolog 2005 was finally put to an end. Ms. Anne Kathleen Grace Romero, 23 years old, candidate number 3, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Management in Andres Bonifacio College, was finally judged to be this year’s Mutya sa Dipolog.

“I am very happy, I did not expect this!” uttered by Ms. Romero when was crowned the new ambassadress of goodwill of Dipolog City. While she was about to become teary-eyed, she waved to the hundreds of audience applauding her. Many reactions can be heard from all over the gym but it can be noticed how people supportively reacted when she walked along the aisle for the first time as Mutya sa Dipolog 2005.

Ms. Romero received the Mutya sa Dipolog Official Trophy and Crown as well as a bouquet, a sash and a cash prize worth P30,000.00 plus a gift certificate from Titanium Fitness Gym. Some of the other prizes which she has won include a Gift Pack from AVON Cosmetics, Inc., a Round Trip Air Ticket from PAL, a gift certificate worth P24,000.00 diamond peel from LaViva Salon. She also won minor awards such as Ms. Colgate Beautiful Smile, Ms. Cali Ice and the Best in Sailor Attire.

Eventually, Ms. Anne 1st runner-up is Ms. Cheryl Corpus Lim, candidate number 11, a graduate from University of the Philippines Cebu City with a degree of BA Psychology. Ms. Lim the Mutya sa Dipolog Official Trophy, a bouquet, a sash, a cash prize worth P20,000.00 as well as a Gift Pack from AVON Cosmetics, Inc.

The award from the Zamboanga del Norte Press Club as Darling of the Press came with a P5,000.00 cash prize as well as a bouquet and sash. The ZN Press Club had a hard time deciding this year’s winner but it was pretty obvious how Ms. Lim confidently answered the questions given by their members during their media exposure and interviews. She was also chosen as this year’s Ms. Cali Shandy for having a free-spirited personality.

On the other hand, the 2nd runner-up place was handed down to Ms. Sheila Caboverde Jaralve, candidate number 8, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, a very charming and witty lady who hail from nearby Victoria Country Homes, Polanco Zamboanga del Norte. Ms. Jaralve took home a cash prize worth P15,000.00, the Official Mutya sa Dipolog Trophy, a sash, a bouquet and a gift pack from Avon Cosmetics, Inc. She also won this year’s Ms. Palmolive Silky Hair, Ms. LaViva Salon and the Best in Long Gown.

For the Special Awards, Rolex Photo Processing chose Ms. Helen Louis Aznar as this year’s Ms. Photogenic; Ms. Congeniality or Miss Friendship went to Ms. Mary Kris Grado and Ms. Professionalism was awarded to Ms. Janalei Laput. The Best in Talent was awarded to Ms. Helen Louis Aznar wherein she sang the hit song of Alanis Moressette while she confidently strokes the notes in her electronic organ. Ms Aznar also bagged the awards in Best in Retro Attire and she also vested the other candidates in the Ms. Daily Dipolognon Internet.

This year’s Miss Daily Dipolognon Internet garnered a total of 3,970 votes or 49% of the overall total number of votes of 8,133. Ms. Helen Louis Aznar is awarded by Ms. Jivem Lim, 1st Runner-up, Mutya sa Dipolog 2004 and last year’s Miss Daily Dipolognon Internet 2004, assisted by Mr. Rheynolds Gaylan, TDD Operations Manager and Ms. Nadelle Icalina, 2nd Runner up Mutya sa Dipolog 2003.

Ms. Mary Kris Grado grabbed the awards as Ms. Globe Telecom and Ms. Gandang Hiyang Salon while Ms. Irish Lucrecia got the Ms. Flawless Skin award.

Eight renowned professional personalities in the beauty and in the arts compose the distinguished board of judges in that evening and they were;

Mr. Kenneth Paul D. Amigable who finished his Bachelor of Science in Accounting at the Immaculate Conception College La Salle, Cum Laude. He was also a recipient of the Class President Outstanding Leadership Award. Presently, he is the Account Management Specialist of Globe Telecommunications, Inc.

Ms. Henrietta Kwan-Robins finished her Banking and Finance at the University of San Carlos in Cebu, Summa Cum Laude. Shortly after graduation, she joined the Associated Bank as Money Market Trader where she was awarded Employee of the Year in 1978. Later she joined Interbank as Senior Branch Manager for seven years until she decided to help run the family business. She is now the Operations and Finance Executive of Robins Home Depot Inc. and Proprietress and Beauty Consultant of a famous beauty salon in Cebu. Ms. Robins is married to Robinson Robins with whom she has six children and four grandchildren.

Dr. Ma Del Pilar Sophia Ames finished her High School Education at St. Mary’s Academy here in the city of Dipolog and her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology at the College of the Holy Spirit in Manila. She proceeded to take up medicine at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center. At present she works as a Medical Coding Specialist for Southwest Newborn Services based in Midland, Texas, USA.

Mr. Ateng Arkoncel hails from Davao City. He has been a theater artist for twenty-eight (28) years; a stage director and scriptwriter for twenty (20) years and has handled and directed over two hundred (200) musical productions and concerts. He has also worked for the Davao City Tourism Office for five years.

Mr. Christopher Verne Arbon is a renowned artist, a baritone singer and currently a ramp and image model of Faces and Bodies Modeling Agency in Bacolod City; a former MR. NEGROS ORIENTAL STATE UNIVERSITY and one of the ten outstanding students of Region 7 in the year 2005. He graduated last March 2005 with a degree in Bachelor of Technological Education, Cum Laude.

The 7th judge is Director Quirino M. Libunao of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) of Region 9. Director Libunao was the guest speaker during the July 1 opening program on the occasion of the 92nd founding anniversary of the city.

Ms. Mercy Teves – Goñi is the Chairperson of the board of Judges. She is a graduate of the Assumption Convent in Manila and the Philippine School of Interior Design. She was a member of the famous Bayanihan Dance Troupe which toured the whole of Europe and the USA. At one time, she was councilor of Bais City; an Event and Pageant Organizer and active Social and Civic leader in Negros Oriental; member of the Dumaguete City Tourism Council and the Negros Sidlakan Council. She is the daughter of the late Senator Lorenzo Teves and widow of the late Mayor Goñi of Bais City.

The AB Amatong Civic Center was filled with thousands of people who squeezed in just to see their favorite candidate and to take a peek to the heartthrob of Philippine Cinema, the young and amiable John Lloyd Cruz.
